Overview

The Packaging Design Manager will lead design strategy for private label brands and packaged goods in support of overall positioning and portfolio growth of currently 2400 products throughout the store. This position will be responsible for developing clear style guidelines and package design for multiple brands available only at Sprouts. This person will work closely with the Sr. Manager Creative Services, Brand Marketing Team, Private Label Team as well as third party vendors to implement designs that represent the brand accordingly.

 

The ideal candidate must have a thorough knowledge of design with strong conceptual and production skills and the ability to execute all projects from concept to completion, including but not limited to: product and stylized photography, image editing, graphic design, and creating product mock-ups. The Packaging Design Manager will interface with vendors and printers to ensure the proper standard of quality and visual representation of the brand and will also work with the internal design team to ensure the visuals are working towards the overall strength of the brand.

 

It is important for the candidate to be able to implement established brand guidelines while still innovating and pushing the boundaries across many product categories. The candidate will also have multiple day-to-day responsibilities that are extremely time-sensitive and require a high level of attention to detail.

Essential Functions

  • Researches and evaluates design ideas based on design function relationships, visual appearance, serviceability, engineering, materials and methods, application, price and budget, manufacturing technology, market characteristics, and client specifications.
  • Stays current with design trends, reads publications, and consults with engineering, production, marketing and sales reps to establish design concepts and researches user based needs that influence resulting design.
  • Researches and integrates findings into concepts and sketches to design ideas.
  • Presents designs to stakeholders and discusses any needs for modification, improvement and change.
  • Conceptualizes and designs packaging for products. Will also build product mockups as needed.
  • Creates and communicates design solutions to stake holders through renderings and written documentation. Also, determines materials, construction, mechanisms, color, shapes, surface finishes, and manufacturing processes that are involved in the new product development process.
  • Manages the working relationships across several sets of teams and provides leadership and supervision for major package design projects.
  • Coordinates product photography with in-house and contract photographers.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design/visual communications or related field, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • 7+ years of packaging or industrial design experience.
  • Strong conceptual and creative thinking skills, as well as a solid knowledge of typography, color theory, design systems and layout principles.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative suite, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent creative conceptual design skills.
  • Knowledgeable in current design trends.
  • Ability to follow creative direction, maintain brand standards and work collaboratively. Ability to respond effectively and appropriately to creative feedback.
  • Ability to demonstrate resourcefulness, accountability and outstanding attention to detail.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
