Overview

The Retail Systems Analyst will analyze business requirements, procedures, and problems in order to automate or improve existing retail systems. Acting as subject matter expert for all retail processes and systems, this person will create (develop) or modify procedures to solve complex problems while considering system capacity, operational impact, and desired results. With a strong understanding of store operational processes, the Retail Systems Analyst will serve as the IT lead for small to medium sized projects. In addition, the Retail Systems Analyst will provide guidance to the Support Desk Team for all tier 2 and 3 level type incidents.

Essential Functions

  • Constantly looks for new technologies and how they can have a positive impact on the customer as well as store operations
  • Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for retail systems to include but not limited to the point of sale (POS), inventory, ordering, receiving, scales, shelf price audit and labor scheduling
  • Defines, analyzes and evaluates existing business functions and processes and makes recommendations to management on opportunities for process improvements
  • Translates conceptual user requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers/project team. This includes creating specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to the team
  • Reviews system design plans to ensure they meet the business requirements
  • Oversees implementation of new processes and/or systems including integrations and data migrations
  • Analyzes system issues to determine root cause and provides a complete analysis of the issue to justify criticality, priority and business impact
  • Accountable for planning and maintaining supported versions of retail systems
  • Creates and executes implementation plans for system upgrades and fixes
  • Documents new systems and processes with the end user in mind
  • Provide orientation to end users for modifications to existing processes and new functionality
  • Provides incident management (tier 2 and 3) to include on-call duties outside of regular business hours
  • Responsible for educating the Support Team on new systems, applications, processes, and resolutions
  • Communicates with 3rd party vendors to provide support and implementation of projects

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Two (2) years’ experience in retail systems
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Retail store operations experience a plus
  • Solution design, technical development and deployment experience a plus
  • Proven analytical, technical documentation, and problem-solving abilities
  • Able to conduct research into new solutions and best practice standards
  • Able to create data processing flowcharts, translate functional requirements to technical requirements and write use\test cases
  • Flexibility of providing support during odd hours and peak seasons.

 

Technical Skills:

 

  • Strong SQL experience with an in-depth understanding of queries, functions, manipulation of data, server interactions, database types, field types
  • Strong knowledge of the following retail related systems a plus:
    • Point of Sale platform and related technologies (mobile, kiosk, etc.)
    • Ecommerce Click & Collect and related in-store processes\systems
    • Customer Loyalty
    • Time Keeping Systems
    • Labor Scheduling Systems
    • Scale Management Systems
    • Inventory, Ordering, Receiving
    • Shelf Price Audit
    • Order Management Systems (OMS)
    • Host Pricing Systems
  • Experience with integrating store systems to host systems (financial, inventory, ordering, pricing, etc.)
  • Experience with facilitating requirements sessions, documenting activity workflows and gathering business requirements
  • Strong understanding of Android and Windows Operating Systems
  • Proficient with business applications such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio

 

Communication Skills:

 

  • Excellent presentation, verbal, and written skills with an emphasis on being able to present technical topics in an easy to understand way for non-technical customers
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of senior managers, peers and subordinates
  • Able to competently understand, speak, read and write English
  • Able to lead training sessions for subordinates
  • Requires excellent interpersonal communication and relationship building skills
