  • Overview

    The Network Administrator is responsible for administering and maintaining the core IT network infrastructure/platforms and providing day-to-day operational support. This includes maintaining an environment for the delivery of all key line of business applications thru on-site, colocation and 3rd party hosted infrastructure solutions. Coordinate and communicate planned upgrades, enhancements and maintenance for servers, infrastructure and network systems.

    Within the IT infrastructure domain, the Network Administrator requires additional mastery of network management, monitoring tools and methodologies, disaster recovery systems, security technology management, maintenance of Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and ITIL aligned best practices. Proficiency in related IT-centric business processes such as change management, systems analysis and quality assurance are also required.

    Essential Functions

    • Provide operational support for the IT network infrastructure production environment.
    • Provide management of network devices and IT support tools/technologies.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in IT tools including network monitoring, network management, remote access, inventory management/collection and other related tools.
    • Configures IT network infrastructure solutions to meet complex business and system requirements by leveraging recommended best practices, organizational governance, ensuring optimization of performance and minimizing risk.
    • Manages network security and permissions in alignment with the IT Security and Compliance Team.
    • Assists in root cause analysis and following up on related action items.
    • Involved in the promotion of new infrastructure tools/systems through development, integration, and production environments.
    • Coordinate patches and upgrades as necessary for all network devices.
    • Work with users and/or project teams to analyze business needs and develop requirements documentation and project plans.
    • Comply with change control, development life-cycle and release management policies and procedures.
    • Maintains and monitors configurations of infrastructure and related systems to ensure end user success.
    • Respond to escalated issues, conducts troubleshooting/research and reports on workarounds and resolutions per ITIL-management best practices.
    • Drives standardization of operating network deployment methodologies.
    • Drives standardization of application stack deployment methodologies.
    • Serves as technical contact responsible for SLA delivery including infrastructure and application availability for IT systems.
    • Acts as backup to other administrators (Network Administrators and Senior System Administrators) as needed.
    • Intimately involved in new systems/technology migrations and implementations.
    • Responsible for delivery of IT metrics across all systems (i.e.: network uptime, monitoring, patch management, vulnerability management, etc.).
    • Policy and procedure enforcement under the best practices established within the IT Department.
    • Network Administrators work with their counterparts to troubleshoot advanced infrastructure and application issues.
    • Network Administrators perform installation, configuration, administration and tuning of many infrastructure systems and applications (see skills below).
    • Network Administrators may also serve in an advisory role on ongoing improvements and enhancements to IT infrastructure.
    • On-call unless a planned vacation or PTO time has been communicated with their supervisor.
    • Logs Incidents for any unplanned Outage reported by the Monitoring System.
    • Logs incident for Maintenance Task and/or Configuration Change being performed in the IT Environment.
    • Escalates issues that cannot be resolved to the appropriate contact after gathering required details/analysis.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements

    • Four-year degree or equivalent additional experience in a related discipline (e.g., information technology, computer science, business, engineering).
    • Minimum 5+ years of experience managing complex IT network environments.
    • Strong knowledge of implementing and managing complex IT environments.
    • Retail environment experience is preferred but not required.

    Technical Skills: 


    • Adept at change management and release management policies and procedures.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required.
    • Knowledge of ITIL V3 preferred.
    • Implementation, configuration and management of most of the following technologies:
      • Cisco IOS/NXOS switches and routers
      • F5 BIGIP Load Balancers (LTM/GTM/VCMP)
      • Palo Alto Firewalls
      • Cisco Meraki MX/MS/MR devices
      • Solarwind’s Orion Monitoring platform including NPM/APM/NTA/IPAM
      • Cisco ACS/ISE
      • Cisco Unified Communications (preferred)
    • WAN technologies (MPLS/IPVPN/MOE) required.
    • VPN technologies (IPSEC and SSL) required.
    • Experience with network patch management required.
    • Advanced dynamic routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) required.
    • TCP/IP and general network management experience required.
    • Troubleshooting advanced wireless communication preferred.
    • Cisco NXOS preferred.
    • Meraki SDWAN preferred
    • Network traffic shaping (QoS, Cos) preferred.
    • Exposure with converged networking (FCOE) preferred.
    • Experience network scripting languages (JSON, XML, vendor specific API’s).
    • Exposure to ITIL management systems preferred.
    • Certifications in related technologies (CCNA, CCNP, F5, PCNSE etc.) preferred.
    • Exposure with networking in hypervisors including VMWare and/or Microsoft Hyper-V preferred
    • Experience in Microsoft Visio preferred.

    Communication Skills: 

    • Ability to competently understand, speak, read and write English.
    • Ability to produce professional written communication including project submittals, complex visios and knowledgebase articles.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, project steering committees and customers. 
    • Requires excellent interpersonal communications skills.
