  • Overview

    The Director of Procurement will provide leadership and direction to the strategic development of procurement within Sprouts Farmers Market. The primary purpose of the position is to drive value, cost savings and results across all spend categories and execute strategic procurement plans for the growing business. Primary responsibilities will include driving competitive capital and goods; communication of initiatives; alignment of robust category strategies with business requirements; strategically sourcing and negotiating contracts; and maintaining efficient sourcing operations. The Director of Procurement will contribute significantly to establishing and developing a profound world-class sourcing and procurement organization within Sprouts and is accountable for achieving assigned cost savings targets.

    Essential Functions


    • Provide leadership and direction to procurement coordinators and buying team
    • Work with company leadership to identify, manage and prioritize the sourcing and procurement of all non-merchandise spend to align with company-wide goals and objectives
    • Make staffing decisions to determine hiring, evaluation, counseling, and termination of team members to meet company objectives
    • Guide the procurement team in the sourcing process, market trend analysis, negotiation strategy, and supplier selection methodology to optimize value
    • Drive and deliver productivity, capital and expense strategic goals while ensuring supplier quality and delivery requirements are met
    • Represent and lead Sprouts in all supplier and contract negotiations while driving EBITDA and reducing business risk
    • Act as a financial steward in identifying, spearheading and managing project teams to reduce total cost of ownership while meeting and enhancing business financial goals and objectives
    • Support Construction leadership and developers, as needed, to ensure timely completion of all projects
    • Work closely across the business with Design and Planning, Merchandising, Marketing, Operations, Construction, and Facilities, supporting and managing the change process
    • Support the Chief Development Officer in procurement strategy, ad-hoc reporting and reporting results to the business in an effective and efficient manner
    • Duties may change, and team member may be required to perform other duties as assigned

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master's Degree preferred
    • 8+ years of experience with extensive procurement knowledge in the retail space
    • Knowledge of the procurement lifecycle and professional procurement best practices
    • Strong experience in supplier negotiations and developing/executing sourcing strategies
    • Strong communication skills in collaborating with internal and external resources to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and established timelines.
    • Experience managing people, projects and/or cross functional teams
    • To live the values of Sprouts, working in a collaborative, supportive, constructive and positive manner, providing solutions and options; always sharing learnings
    • Strategic thinking, analytical thinking, negotiation skills and leadership skills are essential for this role
    • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint and Word
    • Willing to travel up to 25% of the time for business purposes
